of stem cell trials for heart failure, Dr. John Connolly
- Head of the Stem Cells and Cloning Policy at the Dept.
of Health, and the team behind VetCell; Greg
McGarrell/Dr. David Mountford who are pioneering stem
cell therapies in race horses. Now for a bit more detail
on all our speakers:

Dr. John
Connolly
Dr. John Connolly is Head of Stem Cells and Cloning Policy
at the Department of Health and Secretary to the UK Stem

discovery and international competitiveness in the area of
stem cells, the UK Stem Cell Initiative (UKSCI) was
established by the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, in his March
2005 budget. The UKSCI, chaired by Sir John Pattison, was
charged with developing an overarching vision and costed
strategy for UK stem cell research over the next decade. In
December 2005, the UKSCI published its report and
recommendations. The strategy for the Initiative is
underpinned by 11 recommendations, each of which falls into
one of three categories: (i) strengthening infrastructure,
(ii) improving research funding or (iii) enhancing
coordination and communication.
